Website FAQ

Q: What does SSL stand for?
A: Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) is “the standard security technology for establishing an encrypted link between a web server and a browser. This link ensures that all data passed between the web server and browsers remain private and integral.” (source: http://info.ssl.com/article.aspx?id=10241)
Q: What does HTTPS stand for?
A: Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure (HTTPS) uses a separate Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) to “encrypt the information that is being sent, which means that the true meaning of the data (personal information, etc.) is very difficult to be cracked by anyone trying to see the information.” (source: https://blog.easynews.com/http-vs-https-whats-the-difference)
Q: Will my non-Hibu digital ad campaigns (pay-per-click, display ads, social ads) be affected?
A: It’s possible, but not likely because we’re using a 301 redirect to point your old “http” URL web address to your new “https” URL. Just contact your ad campaign provider to let them know that your URL now includes “https” at the beginning. They’ll be able to make any adjustments necessary to keep your campaign(s) from being interrupted.
Q: So was my site UNsecure before?
A: SSL / HTTPS has become a standard best practice in recent years. It’s still not required for websites, but it is a good idea to include it if at all possible.
Q: Will my ranking improve when I add HTTPS?
A: We can’t make any guarantees, but Google has stated that they’re using HTTPS as “a ranking signal” and industry experts have noticed that more of the Page 1 Google results are now HTTPS sites.
Q: Are HTTPS sites compatible with all browsers and/or operating systems?
A: Older browser and operating system users may encounter a warning. But modern browsers and operating systems won’t have any issues with HTTPS.
Q: Now that my site’s secure, can I start asking for more sensitive information (like credit card numbers)?
A: No. SSL / HTTPS is only the first recommended layer of security encryption. At this time, SSL is not adequate to collect certain sensitive information, including financial and/or medical details.
Q: What is a 301 redirect?
A: 301 Moved Permanently. A 301 redirect is a permanent redirect which passes between 90-99% of link juice (ranking power) to the redirected page. 301 refers to the HTTP status code for this type of redirect. In most instances, the 301 redirect is the best method for implementing redirects on a website. (source: https://moz.com/learn/seo/redirection)
